Powis Pigs is part of W.H Powis & Son; a family run business in Berrington, Shrewsbury who have been farming here for 5 generations. It started with two saddleback gilts as pets but has developed to include the endangered British Lop and Gloucester Old Spots.
British Lop pigs are the only endangered pig as classified by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, as members of this organisation and the British Lop Society we are committed to increase their numbers, there is less that 200 registered sows in the country. The only way of achieving this is to breed from them to create a demand for their excellent quality meat, all our Lops are Registered Pedigree pigs.
The aim is to produce good quality local pork from pigs that are kept outdoors, free to root, forage and wallow. They grow naturally and because of this they produce great tasting pork, bacon and sausages.
Our pigs have a happy life and free from stress as you can see from the photos, they have plenty of room and 24 hr access to shelter.
If you care about the food you eat and the welfare and condition of the pigs then please contact us to place an order. Powis Pigs is also registered with Environmental Health so you can be confident in the food that we produce.
